Best Buy Blu-Ray Trade Up Sale on this week!

Sorry I’ve been go so long dear readers. With family visiting for 2+ weeks my life was taken away. I’m back and, kinda, ready to go.

I wanted to share an awesome deal I saw today in the online Best Buy ad. Right now you can take any of your old, crappy DVDs to Best Buy to get a $5 credit towards the purchase selected BLu-Ray discs.

At first I thought it was a one for one exchange… so I went to Best Buy and “upgraded” my Knocked Up, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and 40 Year Old Virgin DVDs to a combo that includes Blu-Ray, DVD, and digital download (iTunes compatible!!!) for a total of $15 plus tax. (The Blu-Rays I bought are on sale for $9.99 making them each $4.99 after the $5 credit). After a quick phone call with my Dad I found out you can trade in any DVD. So back to Best Buy I went to trade in 2 REALLY bad DVDs for the Blu-Ray, DVD, Digital combos of Crazy Stupid Love & Horrible Bosses. They are on sale for $14.99, so $9.99 with the credit. Sadly, these two come with the really bad UltraViolet digital copies. I’m in the process of obtaining iTunes compatible files for those. If that works I’ll write a post on how you can do the same and actually watch any UltraViolet digital copies through iOS/iTunes devices without Flixster.

So go forth and upgrade! Keep in mind that you can only get 5 $5 credits at one time. I also suggest you find the Blu-Rays you want first because if you trade in the DVDs first you can’t get them back if you don’t find Blu-Rays. (I looked at the selected Blu-Rays online and then got them in the store before going to customer service to turn in my DVDs.) Let us know what you get

Shopping for a TV fan? Save 20% on NBC.com purchases!

I was just buying a gift for an awesome Community fan and I saw that NBC.com is offering a “Friends and Family 20% off” discount. Just enter the promotional code NBCUFAN. The banner with the code stated it was only good for 4 days (I don’t know when it started). I used it and it worked! Just wanted to pass on some holiday savings! Happy shopping, TV fans!

Visiting the HBO Store NYC

While I was in New York for a family visit, I spent an afternoon on my own around the Bryant Park area. After lunch with an old colleague, I walked right into the HBO Store. It’s located right on 6th Avenue and 42nd Street; it’s not a big shop but you can’t miss it with its HBO logo and storefront.

I went in to see if there were any new The Wire merch since the last time I visited. No, same stuff. There’s a few more things in the online store that they don’t have. I walked around and noticed that all the Sex and the City merch were on sale. Still, the tops were kind of expensive.

Then, I peeked at the Game of Thrones aisle and picked out a Stark t-shirt for myself. I bought the XL, but I think the L would have sufficed because it is very stretchy.

I'm a Stark (and a Gryffindor!)

One thing that grabbed my attention was the True Blood make-up by Tarte. Now you too can look “bitten” or at least vampy! Sorry for the crappy photos:

I didn’t try them on – they looked like they’d be a bit bright for me. But I checked Sephora, and they’ve got the cheek stain and a Limited Edition palette for sale. Being the savvy fashionistas, I recommend you sign up for eBates and shop Sephora through eBates’ portal so you can get an additional 8% cash back! CASH BACK!!

Overall, I thought the store was filled with the same stuff from last year, except for the new show merchandise. There is more variety in the online store.
